Let’s talk about the Facilities and Finance task force who not surprisingly, came up with the idea to close Dr. Knight Elementary. The board and administration tell us this group of people were a diverse group of individuals selected to find financial solutions to the district’s budget crisis. They refused to give the names of those selected because they didn’t want their names released. We have obtained that list on our own, from individuals who feel the board and superintendent refuse to look at other cost saving measures and instead portray the closure of a thriving school as the only option.
What is NOT surprising is that this list is comprised of many who continue to make money off our district’s inability to control spending. It started to make sense when learning, that at the task force’s first meeting, the main idea immediately presented was to close Dr. Knight. Research had already been done and presented to this group not as a potential idea, but as an agenda; find reasons to close this school. What may surprise some is that no other areas of our district were represented in this task force.
